Outreach and Event Marketing for the ICCIT Council

As the academic society representing students in the Institute of Communication, Culture, Information, and Technology (ICCIT) program at the University of Toronto Mississauga, the ICCIT Council organizes creative, social, academic, and professional events to prepare students for careers in media, marketing, design, and technology. As the Vice President External On Campus, I led strategic initiatives to enhance communication and collaboration within the council, organizing events and workshops to drive engagement, while managing outreach efforts to build and strengthen relationships with external partners.

Objective

To lead the acquisition and management of on-campus partnerships, fostering strong stakeholder relationships, while executing events focused on social engagement, mental health awareness, creativity, and professional networking.

Challenges

  • Encouraging participation in events amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, while ensuring a diverse range of events appealed to students re target industries

  • Identifying and securing external partnerships that aligned with the council's mission and added value to students' experiences.

  • Coordinating logistics and managing the various moving parts of each event while maintaining a cohesive vision and achieving successful outcomes.

Academic Opportunities

Partnered with the Faculty of Information and the Digital Enterprise Management Association to secure mentorship programs and host information sessions, enhancing students' academic experiences.

Networking Events

Collaborated with industry leaders in Marketing, Communications, and Consulting to organize networking events, connecting students with professionals in their fields.

Showcases and Case Competitions

Worked with campus groups to host creative case competitions and showcases, providing students opportunities to demonstrate their skills and connect with industry professionals.

Community Engagement

Engaged students through volunteer opportunities with nonprofits like Champions of Change and CIBC Run for the Cure, offering hands-on experience and fostering community involvement.

This experience deepened my skills in outreach, event management, and collaboration with diverse stakeholders. It also taught me the importance of adaptability, especially in navigating the challenges posed by the pandemic, and highlighted the power of creating meaningful connections to enrich the student experience. Ultimately, this role reinforced my commitment to building strong communities and contributing to the growth and success of those I work with.
